Children five and under ride free when accompanied by a fare-paying passenger. A maximum of four children age 5 and under may ride for free with a fare-paying passenger (any additional children age 5 and under will be charged a half fare).
Children ages 6 through 11 are eligible for a Kid's ConnectCard, which entitles half-fare payments. Parents or guardians must apply for a Kid's ConnectCard in-person at the Downtown Service Center or online. Proof of age is required.
Persons with Disabilities
Individuals with disabilities are eligible for a Reduced Fare ConnectCard, which entitles half-fare payments. To obtain a Reduced Fare ConnectCard, please visit Port Authority's Downtown Service Center or print out and complete this application: (PDF) (Word Document). Riders with disabilities who have a red-white-and-blue Medicare card should bring their card and a photo ID to the Service Center.
Riders without a red-white-and-blue Medicare card must visit the Downtown Service Center to obtain an application for a Reduced Fare ConnectCard or call 412-255-1356 to request that an application be mailed to you. The application must be signed by a physician and include a letter on the physician's letterhead. Once approved, riders will be notified by postcard when their Reduced Fare ConnectCard is ready for pick-up. Please bring the postcard and a photo ID to the Downtown Service Center to obtain your new Reduced Fare Connect Card.
A Reduced Fare ConnectCard can be loaded with stored cash value or 10-trip blocks at any ConnectCard machine, retail location or the Downtown Service Center. Visit ConnectCard.org for a full list of locations.
ACCESS is shared ride door-to-door transit, serving primarily senior citizens and persons with disabilities. This service is available by advance reservation and offers transit throughout Port Authority's service area. Fares vary according to eligibility and distance traveled.
In addition to ACCESS, certain individuals may qualify for a special Half-Fare All-Day Identification Card that entitles them to ride Port Authority transit at half fare at all times. Individuals presenting this card are also eligible to be accompanied by one personal assistant for no additional fare charge.
This special identification card is issued by ACCESS to those who are eligible.

Seniors age 65+ who present a Pennsylvania Senior Citizen ID Card or a Medicare card at the time of fare payment are entitled to ride for free on the bus, light rail or Mon Incline at all times.
Application for the Pennsylvania Senior Citizen ID Card must be made in person at Port Authority's Downtown Service Center at 534 Smithfield Street in Downtown Pittsburgh or at selected Senior Citizen Centers throughout Allegheny County. - Photo driver's license
- Birth certificate
- Armed forces discharge or separation papers
- Baptismal certificate
- PACE ID card
- Passport or naturalization papers
- Pennsylvania ID Card
- A statement of age from the U.S. Social Security Administration
The Senior Citizen ID Card will be mailed directly to your home.
College Students, Staff and Faculty
The University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University and Chatham University are members of Port Authority's U-Pass program. Their students, staff and faculty may ride any Port Authority vehicle within any zone at any time simply by tapping valid, unexpired university-issued ID card on the farebox or validator.
Students, staff and faculty at Carlow University, Everest Institute, Point Park University and Robert Morris University are entitled to a discounted bus, light rail or Mon Incline fare during select days/times by showing their valid, unexpired school-issued ID cards. The discounted fare is $1.00 one way and is available during the following times:
- Weekdays after 7 p.m.
- At all times on weekends
- At all times on the following holidays: New Year's Day (observed), Martin Luther King Jr. Day (observed), Presidents Day (observed), Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day (observed), Labor Day, Columbus Day (observed), Veterans Day (observed), Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day (observed)
Law Enforcement/Municipal Employees
The following law enforcement and municipal employees are permitted to ride free when in full uniform:
- City and municipal police, fire and paramedic personnel in full uniform and only within their municipality.
- School crossing guards during regular school hours, in full uniform and only within their specific school district.
- Pennsylvania State Police, Allegheny County Deputy Sheriffs, Housing Authority Police, Allegheny County Jail Guards, Pennsylvania State Corrections Officers, Pittsburgh Public School Police, Allegheny County Deputy Coroners in full uniform.
- Pittsburgh Parking Patrol Officers/Meter Attendants in full uniform and only within their municipality.
