The Port Authority-owned Wabash Tunnel provides a shortcut for motorists from Route 51 to the South Side and Downtown Pittsburgh. The centuries-old former railroad tunnel was opened as a commuter tunnel in December 2004.
Port Authority buses/T do not use the Wabash Tunnel.
The tunnel operates as HOV-2 (minimum of two occupants) during peak periods and is available to general automobile traffic during non-peak, evening and weekend periods:

*The Wabash Tunnel is closed for two hours each weekday so that HOV direction can be changed.
Parking Information
Adjacent to the Wabash Tunnel on West Carson Street is a 160-space paid parking lot that includes six ADA-accessible spaces. The lot is operated by Parkway Corp., a private company, and is located close to the T, Mon Incline and many bus routes.
