Tassey Hollow Bridge

Minimize

Beginning on or about December 1 and continuing for about a year, Port Authority will close the Tassey Hollow Bridge for major reconstruction.

The $3.8 million project will include a full replacement of the concrete deck as well as repairs to the steel structure and concrete substructure.

The bridge, which connects Hawkins Ave. in North Braddock with Woodstock Ave. in Swissvale, is one of a number of former “trolley” bridges originally built for streetcar service by Pittsburgh Railways and now owned by the Port Authority.

In anticipation of the work, the bus routes will be detoured beginning Nov. 22.

Detours

59 Mon Valley - The 59 will be extensively rerouted within North Braddock, Rankin and Swissvale.

Braddock

At Library Street and Braddock Avenue, riders traveling toward Braddock Hills Shopping Center and North Versailles Wal-Mart should wait at the bus stop on Braddock Avenue opposite Library Street. Riders traveling toward Swissvale and the Waterfront should wait at the bus stop on Library Street opposite the library.

Edgewood Towne Centre

Riders traveling toward Braddock and North Versailles Wal-Mart should wait at the bus stop on Schoyer Avenue at Braddock Avenue. Riders traveling toward the Waterfront should wait at the bus stop on Church Street just past Braddock Avenue.

Rankin and Swissvale

Riders should be aware that some bus stops in Rankin and Swissvale are served by 59 trips in both directions. Careful attention should be paid to the destination sign on the bus to avoid boarding the bus in the wrong direction.

Buses crossing the Rankin Bridge will be signed "59 MON VALLEY to Century III Mall."

Buses to Braddock, East Pittsburgh and North Versailles will be signed "59 MON VALLEY to North Versailles"

61A North Braddock - The 61A will be renamed 61A Swissvale as this route will begin and end at Swissvale Station.

61B Braddock-Swissvale - A new routing between Jones Avenue and Braddock Avenue utilizing Bell Avenue and Verona Street will be served by the 61B until the bridge reopens.
