Port Authority provided more than two dozen buses to transport hundreds of local and out-of state police officers, state legislators and other local dignitaries to and from the funeral proceedings for three fallen officers at the Petersen Event Center on April 9.

A Message From Steve Bland
As many of you know, one of the primary goals of our Connect ’09 initiative is to implement new forms of technology to better connect local neighborhoods and the region. Last month, Port Authority signed an agreement with Scheidt and Bachmann USA, Inc. to advance this initiative through a new automated fare collection sytem that uses smart cards.
Port Authority Board holds workshop to discuss FY 2010 Preliminary Operating and Capital Budgets
On April 24, Port Authority Board Member and Chairman of the Planning and Development Committee, Guy Mattola, hosted a full-Board workshop aimed at addressing some key capital and operating financial issues entering FY 2010.
Responding to the call
Following the tragic events of April 4 when three City of Pittsburgh police officers were killed after responding to a domestic disturbance call in Stanton Heights, Port Authority showed that it, too, was more than willing to respond when called upon.
Port Authority goes green, but not just on Earth Day
Hybrid buses, Autotherm Energy devices and propane-powered vehicles are just some of the ways Port Authority is cutting costs and helping the environment. Port Authority will showcase some of these improvements while participating in several Earth Day events scheduled during the next few weeks. Earth Day was celebrated on April 22.
Transit ridership at highest level in more than half century
Ridership on America’s transit systems in 2008 was at its highest level in 52 years. Last year’s statistics show that more than 10.7 billion rides were provided.
Class is now in session
For most social service agencies, finding transportation for their clients to get to appointments, jobs, job training and other venues on time can be very stressful. That’s why, Port Authority recently teamed up with other regional transit associations to host a free training course called Transportation 101.
