Throughout the course of the Eastern Corridor Transit Study, various tasks were undertaken to evaluate the several transportation alternatives under consideration to meet the needs of the eastern corridor. The evaluation process of this study consists of the following major components:
  • Needs Assessment - Identification of existing travel patterns, transportation concerns and economic conditions within the study area
  • Purpose and Need Statement - Reasons that the study is being conducted and need for transit improvements
  • Definition of Alternatives - Development of proposed public transit improvements and projects to meet the project's purpose and need
  • Technical Analysis - A preliminary analysis of operating costs, capital costs, ridership and environmental review for the proposed projects and improvements
  • Evaluation of Alternatives - A list of criteria will be developed, which may include operational feasibility and capital costs, using a qualitative and quantitative evaluation process
  • Public and Agency Coordination - General and targeted public outreach reach efforts to obtain information and offer feedback regarding the project
  • Financial Planning - Develop a financial plan for the recommended projects and improvements
  • Next Steps - Identify the process in which the projects would be carried through to development
