Pittsburgh, PA – Nearly 75 Port Authority of Allegheny County bus routes will be detoured in the Downtown Pittsburgh area during the Light Up Night festivities planned on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009.
Extra bus and light rail service will be offered in the evening following the afternoon rush hour. The added service will be focused on the busways, Downtown-Oakland routes and light rail trips. A bus shuttle also will serve the Mon Incline stations in the evening.
Groups involved in the 49th Annual Light Up Night plan numerous events throughout Downtown Pittsburgh. The events will close some streets and, at times, other streets temporarily will close as small parades travel through the city.
The planned closings include:
- Commonwealth Place between Liberty Avenue and Fort Duquesne Boulevard from 4-10 p.m.
- Penn Avenue between Liberty Avenue and Fifth Avenue Extension from 6-7 p.m.
- Fourth Avenue between Stanwix and Wood streets from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Smithfield Street: Buses will be delayed due to lane closings between Fourth and Fifth Avenues from 4:30-6 p.m.; all lanes will close from 6-8:30 p.m.
- Roberto Clemente Bridge/Federal Street between West General Robinson Street and Fort Duquesne Boulevard from 10 a.m. to midnight.
- Andy Warhol Bridge/Sandusky Street between Isabella Street and Fort Duquesne Boulevard: one lane closed from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and then all lanes closed from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Detours are as follows, but may be subject to change at any time:
1A, 16A: Inbound stop at Sandusky at Isabella discontinued. Temporary inbound stop established at Anderson at Isabella. Detour in effect from 8 p.m. until end of service.
1D, 1F, 6A: Outbound stop at Sandusky at Isabella discontinued. Temporary outbound stop established at Anderson at Isabella. Detour in effect from 8 p.m. until end of service. 1F and 6A see a delay outbound due to movement of marching bands to Roberto Clemente Bridge.
6B, 86A, 86B, 91A: May see a delay on Seventh St. at Liberty Ave. around 7:30 p.m. due to movement of marching bands. No stop changes in effect.
11D, 11E: Inbound stop at Sandusky at Isabella discontinued. Temporary inbound stop established at Anderson at Isabella. Detour in effect from 8 p.m. until end of service. Additionally, riders may see a delay around 8 p.m. on Ft. Duquesne Blvd. at Sixth St. due to movement of marching bands.
12A, 13A, 13B, 13G: Outbound stop at Sandusky at Isabella discontinued. Temporary outbound stop established at Anderson at Isabella. Detour in effect from 8 p.m. until end of service. Outbound 12A buses may see delays around 7:45 p.m. due to movement of marching bands along Liberty Ave.
16B, 16F, 17B: Inbound and outbound stops at Sandusky at Isabella discontinued. Temporary stops established at Anderson at Isabella. Detour in effect from 8 p.m. until end of service. Delays may occur on Liberty Ave. or Sixth St. around 7:45 p.m. due to movement of marching bands.
500: Inbound and outbound stops at Sandusky at Isabella discontinued. Temporary stops established at Anderson at Isabella. Detour in effect from 8 p.m. until end of service. Delays may occur around 7:45 to 8 p.m. on Sixth Ave., Ft. Duquesne Blvd. and Fifth Ave. due to movement of marching bands.
16D: Inbound stop at Sandusky at Isabella discontinued. Temporary inbound stop established at Anderson at Isabella. Detour in effect from 8 p.m. until end of service. Additionally, riders may see a delay around 7:45 p.m. on Ft. Duquesne Blvd. at Sixth St. due to movement of marching bands.
26E: Outbound trips will detour with no stops affected.
31D: May see delays on Wood St. around 6:45 p.m. due to movement of marching bands.
28K, 28X, 33X, 100: Beginning at 4 p.m., the inbound stop at Smithfield at Fourth will be discontinued and replaced temporarily with stops at Blvd. of the Allies at Smithfield and Fifth at William Penn Place (far side). After 6 p.m., the outbound stop at Smithfield St. Bus Lane at Oliver will be discontinued.
41B, 41D, 41E, 41G, 43E, 46A, 46B, 46D, 46F, 46G, 46H, 46K, 51A, 51C, 53C, BM, BR, E: Outbound stops at Smithfield St. Bus Lane at Fifth and Smithfield St. Bus Lane at Fourth will be discontinued at 6 p.m. Sixth Ave. at Smithfield and Smithfield St. Bus Lane at Third will be served. Riders may see delays at about 6:45 p.m. due to movement of marching bands from Macy’s to PPG Place, and again around 7:45 p.m. as the bands move toward the Roberto Clemente Bridge.
51B, 51D, 51G, 53F, 56B, 56C, 56E: The inbound stop at Fourth at PPG Place will be discontinued. Outbound stops at Fourth at PPG Place, Fourth at Wood and Fourth at Smithfield will also be discontinued and temporary stops will be established at Stanwix opposite Fourth, Blvd. of the Allies at Market, Blvd. of the Allies at Wood, Blvd. of the Allies at Smithfield and Grant at Third. The detour will be in effect beginning at 11 a.m., with the exception of the 53F, which will be affected after 7 p.m.
61A, 61B, 61C, 61D, 71A, 71C, 71D, 77A, 77B, 81A, 81B, 81C: May see delays around 7:40 p.m. due to movement of marching bands from PPG Place to the Roberto Clemente Bridge.
68F, 68J, EBS: Outbound trips will detour with no stops affected.
67A, 67F, 67H, 67J: May see delays around 6:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. due to movement of marching bands from Macy’s to PPG Place, and then from PPG Place to the Roberto Clemente Bridge.
B: The route’s last outbound trip will detour with no stops affected.
