Port Authority to Provide Extra July 4 Service

Pittsburgh, PA, July 1, 2009 – Port Authority of Allegheny County will operate a normal weekday schedule on Friday, July 3, and plans to provide extra service on July 4 during festivities in Downtown Pittsburgh.

The Authority will operate a Sunday/Holiday Schedule on Saturday, July 4, which is Independence Day, and Sunday, July 5. The Sunday and Holiday Service schedules are the same.

On July 4, all light rail vehicles will operate as two-car trains through the day and extra buses are scheduled to operate in the evening.

The changes are intended to accommodate riders following the EQT “Flashes of Freedom” Fireworks Fantasia, scheduled to start at 9:30 p.m. in Downtown Pittsburgh. The event is part of the EQT Three Rivers Regatta planned for July 3-5.

Also, a bus shuttle will operate between the Mon Incline stations starting at 7 p.m. to augment the incline service.

Port Authority Customer Service Representatives will be available by telephone through the holiday weekend. Representatives will be available by calling 412.442.2000 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Also, the Authority’s Downtown Service Center along Smithfield Street will be closed on Friday. The Downtown Service Center will reopen on Monday, July 6.
