Pittsburgh, PA – Port Authority is pleased to announce that it is participating in the City of Pittsburgh 250th birthday celebration by providing the Steel Plaza T Station as the canvas for a photographic art exhibit, entitled Snapshot 250.

Snapshot 250 will be unveiled to the public Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Steel Plaza T Station. WTAE-TV News Anchor Kelly Frey will emcee the event.

Developed to commemorate and celebrate Pittsburgh’s 250th birthday, Snapshot 250 is a public art project designed and produced by the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in collaboration with the Allegheny Conference on Community Development.

Art Institute students, faculty and staff created the exhibit with one particular goal in mind: to provide an opportunity for residents of the region to become uniquely and personally involved in the celebration of Pittsburgh’s famed history and the city’s exciting future. Residents of the region were invited to share personal snapshots of images that capture a sense of pride, moments in time, and the people and places that are uniquely Pittsburgh.

Approximately 250 of 600 photo entries submitted by local residents were chosen by a panel of professional photographers and educators as those that best represent a pictorial depiction of Pittsburgh’s past and present. Examples of the winning entries include images of Pittsburgh’s finest cultural assets, architecture, neighborhoods, schools, parks and youth.

The photo collage exhibit is located on the mezzanine level on the wall between the station entrance from Grant Street and the U.S. Steel Building tunnel.

“This extraordinary exhibit will greet our riders with images that richly detail our region’s past, present and future. Those who may not be T riders should also take the time to see this exhibit and experience Pittsburgh history through the camera lenses of regional residents,” said Port Authority Chief Executive Officer Stephen Bland.
