Pittsburgh, PA – Customers can save money by enrolling in Port Authority’s annual pass program by Friday, December 7, 2007. Following the recommendations of the Pennsylvania Transportation Funding and Reform Commission, the Port Authority Board of Directors will approve the first fare increase in more than five years at its November 21 meeting. The increase will take effect January 1, 2008, and while the amount of the increase has not yet been determined, customers buying annual passes can do so at current rates through December 7.
Customers in the annual pass program pay up front for 11 monthly passes at an already discounted rate and receive the 12th month free. Passes are then mailed directly to their home or office each month. Current prices are $660 for an annual Zone One pass, $825.50 for an annual Zone Two pass and $1,023 for an annual Zone Three pass.
A customer enrolling in the annual pass program and taking 44 Two Zone rides per month – two per weekday in an average month – would save $362.50 over the current cash fare and $74.50 over the current cost of 12 monthly passes. Once a new fare structure is set, the savings will be even greater – and would increase with each additional trip taken.
