Pittsburgh, PA – Port Authority’s regular T service, altered since March for the rehabilitation of the Palm Garden Bridge, will resume as scheduled Sunday, September 2, 2007 – with a new route to debut on Tuesday, September 4.
The new T schedules are available here.
Following the September 3 Labor Day holiday, the 42C Castle Shannon - Beechview route will operate every 10 minutes during weekday peak periods between Overbrook Junction, the transfer point between the Overbrook and Beechview Lines just south of Castle Shannon Station, and Downtown Pittsburgh. All 42C service will be provided by two-car trains, increasing capacity for all customers.
“We are pleased to complete the rehabilitation of this critical piece of infrastructure on time and under budget, and to increase our capacity along the Beechview Line as our T service returns,” said Port Authority Chief Executive Officer Steve Bland. “Our temporary service plan using bus service worked well during this project, but we know our rail customers in the South Hills will be happy to get back into their regular commuting patterns.” Bus detours associated with the Palm Garden Bridge project, which also includes rehabilitating the South Busway bridge over West Liberty Avenue and the West Liberty Avenue ramp to the South Busway, will continue for approximately one more month until that work is complete.
Upon the return of regular T service:
Ø 47L Library will provide all service between Library Station and Downtown Pittsburgh via Overbrook;
Ø 47S South Hills Village via Overbrook will provide peak weekday service between South Hills Village and Dowtown Pittsburgh via Overbrook;
Ø 42S South Hills Village via Beechview will provide all off-peak, weekend and holiday service between South Hills Village and Downtown Pittsburgh via Beechview;
Ø 42C Castle Shannon - Beechview will provide peak weekday service between Overbrook Junction and Downtown Pittsburgh via Beechview;
Ø All 42 Mt. Lebanon Short trips will be eliminated;
Ø Both weekday Penn Park “quick getaway” trips will be eliminated;
Ø 44S Castle Shannon - Beechview rail shuttle service, 37D Dormont Station bus service and 42F Broadway bus service – all instituted during reconstruction of the Palm Garden Bridge – will be discontinued.
