Capital Projects

In recent years, Port Authority completed and put into operation three of four major public transportation investments under its $1 billion Major Capital Investment Program. The West Busway was completed in September 2000 and the first project to open under the program. The East Busway Extension became operational in June 2003 and the Stage II Light Rail Transit Reconstruction Project followed in June 2004. The final project in the program, the North Shore Connector, is awaiting federal approvals for construction. Relevant planning and environmental work for all of these projects began in the 1980s. Studies are underway to determine the next wave of transportation projects with the region.

Other projects under the Major Capital Investment Program include the Wabash HOV Facility, South Hills Village Garage (as part of Stage II), and the proposed Robinson Town Center Garage.
