Construction Update

A view inside the first of two new subway tunnels

Stanwix Street: Between Penn Avenue and Fort Duquesne Boulevard:
Closed to traffic beginning July 2008 for activities related to the arrival and turning around of the tunnel boring machine. Roadway will remain closed for several weeks as activity continues. It is scheduled to re-open later this summer.

Why?
Crews will need to prepare the receiving pit for the arrival of the tunnel boring machine. Once the machine arrives, it will be turned and prepared for the return bore to the North Shore.

Reedsdale Street: Lane Closure and Restrictions:
One lane of eastbound Reedsdale Street is open. Utility work is complete.

Why?
Part of roadway is needed to stage construction vehicles along with excavation activities.

West General Robinson Street – Periodic Restrictions:
Periodic restrictions along West General Robinson between Mazeroski Way and Tony Dorsett Drive to allow for material delivery and hauling out of excavated materials. Vehicular access to the SEA parking garage and parking lot four will remain available.

Why?
Work on cut & cover tunnel and TBM preparation continues, boring is slated to begin.
