Anyone 12 or older pays full fare.
Children under age six may ride free.
When accompanied by a fare-paying passenger, a maximum of four children under age six may ride free.
Children ages six through 11 ride for half fare rounded to the lowest $0.05.
Anyone 12 or older pays the adult full fare.
Persons with Disabilities
Individuals with disabilities presenting a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Reduced Transit Fare card (green or goldenrod) or a Medicare card at the time of fare payment, ride for half fare. The half fare is rounded to the next lowest $0.05.
To obtain a reduced Transit Fare Card application, call (412) 442-2000 or visit Port Authority's Downtown Service Center, located at 534 smithfield Street.A physician or an authorized social service agency must sign the form. If an individual with a disability has a Medicare card, that individual can apply for the PA Reduced Transit Fare Card in person at Port Authority's Downtown Service Center. The identification card will be mailed directly to your home.
A special fare incentive program on Port Authority bus, light rail, and incline services is available for individuals with disabilities who have been certified as "ADA paratransit eligible" through ACCESS, Port Authority's paratransit system. A special identification card is issued by ACCESS to those who are eligible for this program. Call (412) 562-5353 for more information.

Senior citizens age 65 or over, presenting a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Senior Citizen Identification card (blue for men and yellow for women) or a Medicare card at the time of fare payment, can ride Port Authority service for free at all times. Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Free Transit Program for Senior Citizens (paid for by proceeds from the Pennsylvania Lottery) sponsors this program and reimburses Port Authority for all senior rides.
Application for the Pennsylvania Senior Citizen Identification Card must be made in person at Port Authority's Downtown Service Center, 534 Smithfield Street at Mellon Square, Pittsburgh, or at selected Senior Citizen Centers throughout Allegheny County. Call (412) 442-2000 for the location nearest to you. When applying, you must present one of the following as proof of age:
- photo driver's license
- birth certificate
- armed forces discharge/separation papers
- baptismal certificate
- PACE ID card
- passport/naturalization papers
- Pennsylvania ID Card
- a statement of age form the U.S. Social Security Administration.
There is a simple form to complete. The identification card will be mailed directly to your home.
Law Enforcement/Municipal Employees
The following law enforcement/municipal employees are permitted to ride free when in full uniform: City and municipal police, fire and paramedic personnel within their municipality; School crossing guards during regular school hours and only within their specific school district; Pennsylvania State Police; Allegheny County Deputy Sheriffs; Housing Authority Police; Allegheny County Jail Guards; Pennsylvania State Corrections Officers; Pittsburgh Public School Police; County Deputy Coroners; and Pittsburgh Parking Patrol Officers/Meter Maids.
