Anyone age 12 or order is defined as an adult in the Port Authority fare system and shall pay full fare (unless qualified for disabled fare) or display an adult fare instrument (ticket, pass, Senior Citizen ID card, etc.)
Children age 5 and under may ride free when accompanied by a fare-paying passenger using cash or any fare instrument (tickets, passes, etc.). A maximum of four children age 5 and under may ride free with any one fare-paying passenger.
Children age 6 through 11 are entitled to ride for half fare at all times.
Persons with Disabilities
Individuals with disabilities presenting a disabled or handicapped person's Medicare card or Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Reduced Transit Fare card at the time of fare payment are entitled to ride for half fare.
Cards are valid on all regularly scheduled transit service during the following hours:
- Weekdays: 8:00 a.m. through 4:29 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. through 6:59 a.m.
- Weekends: At all times
- Holidays: At all times on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President's Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
To obtain a reduced Transit Fare Card application, call (412) 442-2000 or visit Port Authority's Downtown Service Center, located at 534 Smithfield Street in Downtown Pittsburgh. A physician or an authorized social service agency must sign the form. If an individual with a disability has a Medicare card, that individual can apply for the Pennsylvania Reduced Transit Fare Card in person at Port Authority's Downtown Service Center. The identification card will be mailed directly to your home.
ACCESS is shared ride door-to-door transit, serving primarily senior citizens and persons with disabilities. This service is available by advance reservation and offers transit throughout Port Authority's service area.
Service is provided from 6:00 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week, and at such other times and places that Port Authority fixed route service is in operation. There are no restrictions on the purpose or number of trips which may be taken by riders, except that riders are required to share their vehicle with others traveling in the same direction and at the same time.

In addition to ACCESS, certain individuals may qualify for a special Half-Fare All-Day Identification Card that entitles them to ride Port Authority transit all day, everyday at half fare. Individuals presenting this card are also eligible to be accompanied by one personal assistant for no additional fare charge.

Senior citizens age 65 or over who present a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Senior Citizen ID Card or a Medicare card at the time of fare payment are entitled to ride free on the bus, T or Mon Incline at all times.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Free Transit Program for Senior Citizens (paid for by proceeds from the Pennsylvania Lottery) sponsors this program and reimburses Port Authority for all senior rides.
Application for the Pennsylvania Senior Citizen ID Card must be made in person at Port Authority's Downtown Service Center at 534 Smithfield Street in Downtown Pittsburgh or at selected Senior Citizen Centers throughout Allegheny County. Call (412) 442-2000 for the location nearest you. When applying, you must present one of the following as proof of age:
- Photo driver's license
- Birth certificate
- Armed forces discharge or separation papers
- Baptismal certificate
- PACE ID card
- Passport or naturalization papers
- Pennsylvania ID Card
- A statement of age form the U.S. Social Security Administration
There is a simple form to complete. The identification card will be mailed directly to your home.
Law Enforcement/Municipal Employees
The following law enforcement and municipal employees are permitted to ride free when in full uniform:
- City and municipal police, fire and paramedic personnel in full uniform and only within their municipality.
- School crossing guards during regular school hours, in full uniform and only within their specific school district.
- Pennsylvania State Police, Allegheny County Deputy Sheriffs, Housing Authority Police, Allegheny County Jail Guards, Pennsylvania State Corrections Officers, Pittsburgh Public School Police, Allegheny County Deputy Coroners in full uniform.
- Pittsburgh Parking Patrol Officers/Meter Attendants in full uniform and only within their municipality.
