Port Authority's efforts to continue improving its route system continue with the next group of changes planned to start on Sunday, Sept. 5. Nearly 75 routes will be affected by the upcoming changes, which include several significant system improvements.

The Authority has made similar changes through the year -- all developed through the Transit Development Plan, which is the first top-to-bottom improvement of the Authority's route network since it was created in the mid-1960s.

These are not the proposed service reductions and fare increase caused by the statewide transportation funding crisis.

Key changes

  • Mon Valley: The Y1 Large Flyer will increase from 12 trips every half hour to 21 trips every 15 minutes, bringing a high level of commuter service to this region.
  • Oakland:
    • Frequencies on the 71A-71C routes will be improved between Centre Avenue and Oakland.
    • A new 93 route will directly connect Lawrenceville with Oakland.
  • South Fayette Park and Ride: Served by the 31 Bridgeville and new G31 Bridgeville Flyer.
  • West Busway: Direct service between Carnegie and Oakland will be restored.
  • Penn Mall: The loop will be closed and all bus service will remain on Penn Avenue. The 71C, 74, 77, 81B, 86, 88 and 89A bus routes will be affected. For stop change details, click here.
  • Park and Ride closings: The Garden City, Monroeville VFD and Valley Presbyterian Church Park and Ride lots will close on Sept. 5 due to service changes.
