First phase: April 4, 2010
Port Authority of Allegheny County will make the first route changes - as developed through the Transit Development Plan process -- on April 4, 2010. Not all routes will change at once. More route changes will be phased in through the next two years and we will announce each well in advance.
About 60 routes will change in some fashion starting April 4, including the addition of the new 75 Ellsworth route. Initially, we planned to make these changes on March 14, 2010. Due to some scheduling difficulties, we decided to push the change back to April 4.
More detailed information and interactive maps will become available on this Web site starting in mid-February. In the following weeks, informational brochures and new schedules will be distributed. A list of the routes with service that will be changing in April is available here. If your route is not listed, it will not change in this round.
In the meantime, riders may sign up for email notifications of when their routes will change. An easy email sign up form is available below.

These changes are the start of sweeping improvements to Port Authority's route structure -- the first in roughly 40 years. We've spent the last two years taking a hard look at our current system, finding its strengths and addressing its weaknesses. Our goal, quite simply, is to provide the best service possible with the resources we have.
Thanks to thousands of comments from riders, employees, local officials and numerous groups, we've been able to target significant changes using the same level of service we offer today. This is not a service reduction and will require the same number of employees we have today.
The majority of changes will maintain or enhance service. If a route was duplicated or underused, it likely was eliminated and service merged into a nearby alternative. We intend to eliminate more than 60 routes by name, yet those routes account for only 10 percent of our ridership.
