Future Enhancements

Airport Multi-Modal Corridor Study
The study has continued efforts begun by the Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Planning Commission (now the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission) when it completed the Airport Multi-Modal Corridor Project in 1989, which identified the need for road and public transportation improvements in the airport corridor. Since then, several study efforts have been undertaken to further advance the 1989 study recommendations. Recent public interest in improving transportation connections to the Pittsburgh International Airport have again spurred the need for determining the most appropriate transportation investments in the corridor. As a result, Port Authority and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission co-lead a study effort to investigate and identify potential transportation improvements throughout the airport corridor, which includes proposals for extensions of the light rail system. Robinson Town Centre Intermodal Facility
The proposed Robinson Town Centre Intermodal Facility could soon be a transportation hub for people who commute to Downtown Pittsburgh and other destinations from the airport corridor and neighboring Beaver and Washington counties each day. This new parking facility, located near the intersection of US 22/30 and SR 60 in Robinson and North Fayette townships, will have approximately 850 spaces and include landscaping, lighting, a sheltered boarding area, seating and other customer amenities. Patrons would be able to park their vehicles - on either a surface parking lot or in a two-story parking garage - and ride public transit to and from Downtown Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh International Airport or Oakland. The Robinson Town Centre Intermodal Facility will help increase mobility in the airport corridor and offer additional transit service options, such as providing connecting service with local bus routes as well as with other transit agencies. Final design on the facility is near completion. The facility is scheduled to open in late 2007. Click here for additional information.
