Benefits

Provides improved access to employment, entertainment, educational and retail centers along the East Busway, and in Oakland and Downtown Pittsburgh.

Nearly 30,000 daily riders enjoy the rapid transit benefits of the Martin Luther King, Jr. East Busway, thus easing traffic congestion on major roadways throughout the corridor.

Provides an efficient one-seat ride, as buses travel from neighborhood streets to the busway and on to one’s final destination without a transfer.

Decreases travel times to Oakland and Downtown Pittsburgh by avoiding traffic congestion on the corridor's heavily traveled roadways.

Delivers added convenience to commuters by providing park and ride lots along the busway and in outlying areas served by buses that travel via the busway.

Offers frequent and flexible bus service, as buses can double as a feeder system and a rapid transit connection.

Improves pedestrian access, provides a decorative green space along most of the busway corridor and includes stations that are clean, well lighted, landscaped and police-patrolled.

Includes, at no cost to community residents, various neighborhood enhancements such as reconstructed roadways, new traffic signals, pedestrian improvements, remodeled South Braddock Avenue Bridge, a linear park and playground, among other community improvements.

Includes the Kenmawr Avenue Ramp, a 500-foot ramp that connects the busway’s terminus in Swissvale to South Braddock Avenue near the Kenmawr Bridge. Customers save time off their commute as buses no longer travel on neighborhood streets in Swissvale and Wilkinsburg communities to access the busway.

Provides improved access for local police and other emergency personnel, thereby reducing their response time to emergencies.
